Principal’s Message

March 23, 2026

Hello NCMS Parents/Guardians,

The 4th quarter just arrived, which is what we call "Game Time". Soon, our students will have the opportunity to showcase all the knowledge they have gained after hundreds of hours of class, homework, and preparing for assignments. By now, every student should have done a FAST data chat with their English Language Arts (ELA), Reading, Math, AVID, or VE teachers to know what they need to do to be successful in FAST PM3. We provide this data, quarter after quarter, to empower each of our students and to help them create a roadmap for success. On the day of the FAST, they should feel confident that all the hard work they have done to that point has prepared them to do their best. This is also true for our students taking an End-of-Course (EOC) test, such as Biology, Algebra 1, or Geometry, or an End-of-Year (EOY) test given by our elective teachers. The data chat will also let them know what they need to do to earn their FAST Festival ticket on May 27th. In addition, this is the time of the year for our spring concerts for Band, Chorus, and Orchestra. It is amazing how much growth we see from their beginning performances to now. Also, our 8th-grade students will start their end-of-year celebrations soon enough. We will send them off to Gradventure, host an 8th-grade dance, and an awards ceremony! Furthermore, it is the time of the year when I remind students that the year is not over because there’s still a lot to do. Our teachers are nearing the end of their curriculum and are already preparing reviews, and students need to continue working on their grades and using all the instructional tools provided by their teachers. Lastly, we are so proud of our AVID Team, as we have been revalidated as an AVID National Demonstration School yet again! AVID at our school is thriving because of our staff, and the impact on our students is palpable. We are excited to continue to expand the program throughout the 2026-2027 school year. As always, attendance is extremely important! It has been a great year at NCMS, but we are not done yet…

Sincerely,

Dr. Francisco Rivera Mieles Principal of Narcoossee Middle School

Testimonials

Avid Student

"When I came to NCMS in 6th grade, I chose to apply for AVID. I’ve been three years in the program now, and I can honestly say it was a huge UPGRADE for me! You gain so many benefits from participating in AVID; organization, better social skills, and confidence. AVID gives you a stronger backbone to your education, and you never have to worry about being prepared because you have an entire community in AVID helping you succeed. The bonds you form in AVID stay with you all through middle school, and you always feel like you have many shoulders to lean on. AVID takes you beyond just the basics and connects you to the real world by sparking your dreams of your future." By: Anabella Turmero - 8th grade AVID @ NCMS

Band Student

"I'm Kayden, an euphonium player. My love for band started from hearing my friends and parents play cool music, which made me want to play even cooler music. Back in 7th grade, I didn't even see myself playing an instrument until summer break. When my dad begged me, and my mom still had her flute from her high school. Then I was placed in beginning band, and the first few weeks Ms. Hawkins had taught me and my classmates what each note, clef, and instrument is. And then we had our instrument try-out night. I did amazing on every instrument, but the euphonium held something special to me. The possibilities, tone quality, I loved it, so when we got to select our instruments, I chose it. Over the school year I learned notes, songs, and even played at my first ever concert! Ms. Hawkins has a special way of teaching and it's one the best I've ever seen. She knows how to teach, progressing kid's skills while still have tons of fun. " Kayden Shaw - 8th Grade Beginning Band student

Band Student-2

"Band is a great place to be. Every time I walk in this classroom, a surge of joy appears in my heart, honestly! As soon as I played the first notes on my instruments, I was in love, and I hope that for generations to come, that love for music and creativity never dies. At my first concert I was so nervous, but as I played, I felt so alive. It was a feeling so strong it practically burst out of my heart, singing for joy. If you ever see someone in a band playing their instrument, just know that the very instrument in their hand could've been their first love." Olivya Gonzalez - 7th Grade Band Student
